When visiting Santa Barbara, one of my favorite hotels in the heart of downtown is The Canary, which is steps away from the beach, bistros, and shopping.
Originally the historic Hotel Carrillo, opened in 1934, the property was rebuilt in 2008 as the Hotel Andalucía after a major renovation.
In 2012, Kimpton purchased The Canary Hotel and, with the help of designer Edward Thomas, transformed the to reflect the Moroccan influence of the Canary Islands with hand painted tiles, wrought iron fixtures, and vibrant textiles and furnishings.
The 97 guest room boutique hotel offers postcard-perfect views from the rooftop pool and terrace, locally sourced cuisine and a world-class wine list to create an inviting retreat with unmistakable local flavor.
Its generously sized guest rooms feature Old World accents like four-poster canopy beds, down duvets and hardwood floors. Luxe amenities include in-room yoga mats, flat-screen TVs and WiFi.
The hotel caters to social and corporate events with more than 7,300 square feet of flexible event space and full catering and banquet services from its famed Finch & Fork Restaurant.
The restaurant offers modern American comfort food. Chef James Siao’ menu’s focus on locally sourced ingredients refreshing takes on classic dishes.
Amenities include complimentary public bike rentals, nightly hosted wine hour and more.
The Canary is located at 31 West Carrillo Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. For more information, visit www.canarysantabarbara.com.
