New York City and its sea of high rise buildings are known around the world – one place to enjoy the height of luxury is The Kimberly Hotel in Manhattan.
Here, in the heart of the city just blocks from Central Park, the hotel radiates a refined elegance with traditional European flair.
My friend and I were instantly drawn to the warm, inviting atmosphere after arriving at the hotel in this bustling area of the city.
Walking into the lobby was a step into a classy level of luxury. To the right was the check-in desk with extra friendly staff who were full of smiles as they greeted us and gave us our room keycards.
To the left was an amazing fish tank with 2,000 gallons of water, which makes it one of the biggest fish tanks in Manhattan.
This amazing centerpiece is thriving with hundreds of live coral. Since the tank is so big, you can actually see different types of colorful fish exhibit schooling behavior as they travel around the reef at rapid pace.
Fun fact: the construction of the tank was featured in Season 3, Episode 4 of Fish Tank Kings (available on Netflix).
The Kimberly Hotel is an amazing property to enjoy, even if you aren’t staying as an overnight guest.
Head into the lobby elevator and take it all the way to the rooftop on level 30 to experience its bar and lounge called “Upstairs.”
The open air layout offers breathtaking views across midtown Manhattan and the iconic Chrysler Building.
Artistically inspired cocktails and a small plates menu are served nightly; offering guests a one-of-a-kind rooftop experience.
Not only is “Upstairs” a spectacular setting for evening cocktails, but it offers a wonderful atmosphere for a delicious breakfast buffet, served Monday through Friday, or an exquisite a la carte brunch menu offered on Saturday and Sunday.
Once checked into our room, we found it to be one the most comfortable places to sleep in Manhattan with feather beds draped in Fretté linens, while covered in fluffy, down comforters and pillows.
We were lucky to stay in the Kimberly’s Luxury One Bedroom King Suite, which are newly renovated, beautifully appointed and are between 530 and 600 square feet.
A private bedroom, a wet bar and sofa bed are incorporated in the living space of a one bedroom suite, with a balcony to extend the view.
Many of the Kimberly’s luxury one bedroom suites include marble bathrooms with heated floors.
There are various levels of luxury suites, depending on your budget.
The Luxury Executive Plus suites have one bedroom and over 800 square feet of space that are located on the 28th, 29th and 30th floors with balconies offering spectacular views of the Chrysler Building.
For the most luxurious stay, the hotel’s two-bedroom suite is perfect for large families or just a weekend away with friends.
This suite has approximately 1,000 square feet of living space, and includes two private bedrooms, two marble bathrooms, a separate living room that includes a comfortable sofa bed, flat screen television, and a balcony with stunning views of the Manhattan skyline.
The majority of rooms and suites have their own private terraces that offer sweeping views of the surrounding high rises.
Kimberly Hotel is in a great area – it’s close to the Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central Station, the theatre district, museums, restaurants and NYC attractions.
On the ground floor there are two restaurants inside the hotel: Bistango and Empire Steak House.
Bistango’s bright red walls bring to life the Italian restaurant that prides itself in serving antibiotic-free meats, sustainable and responsibly sourced seafood, seasonal and local produce.
All dishes may be prepared gluten-free with care and attention.
Bistango at the Kimberly’s unique ‘Bread Bar’ located at the center of the restaurant prepares their most popular menu item – gluten-free flatbreads with specialty toppings.
Bistango’s beer, wine and cocktail menus are designed to complement its seasonal menu as well as cater to their gluten-sensitive clientele.
Meanwhile, Empire Steak House offers the finest cuts of steaks, the freshest seafood and the best selection of wine.
Besides serving their famous USDA Prime Dry-Aged Porterhouse (for two, three, or four) you will find some of the most incredible seafood, poultry, and pasta dishes.
Its wine list consists of over 400 selections where you can find some of the best wines from around the world as well as a Single Malt Scotch list with over 100 selections to accommodate each and every dish.
After dinner, consider heading back up to “Upstairs” at Kimberly Hotel to catch the sunset or an after dinner drink.
This lively 3,000 square foot venue features three separate indoor/outdoor atmospheres, stunning interior design and retractable glass ceilings and walls to allow for the breeze during summer and warmth during in winter.
Both grandeur and intimacy reside here in the harmony of its detailed collaboration: Bohemia Construction connects an amalgam of elements such as a hand-cut bronze bar by Shock Studios, topped with honed absolute black granite by Stone Masters, cascading ivy walls by Sal Cantatore, and hand-painted Venetian walls by Anthony Chase.
A perfect view of the iconic Chrysler Building is the star of the show, as lighting designer Brian Orter, interprets a fresh spin on old Hollywood-glamour incorporating vintage theatrical lights and strings of incandescent bulbs that float overhead.
Deliberately shying away from outdoor lounge-style furniture typical of most rooftop bars as of late, Upstairs’ furnishings, carefully curated by Pentasia Designs from renowned houses such as B&B Italia, Moooi and Piet Boon as well as lush tufted banquets by Esquire, creates an atmosphere of chic sophistication.
Both hyper-modern and neo-gothic, guests may relax and unwind any time of year in an airy vista or a starry refuge. Whether in the sun or under the stars, “Upstairs” and the Kimberly Hotel is truly a magical escape.
Finally, refresh your body and your mind at the hotel’s on-site fitness center, or at the extensive sport and health facilities of the New York Health & Racquet Club. Both are complimentary for the enjoyment of all guests.
The Club is conveniently located one block from the hotel, which offers an indoor Olympic-size pool and fitness professionals who can provide private training sessions for an additional fee.
